Sure, it's true--given enough time, patience, elbow grease,  sweat, and frustration, you can probably design and layout your own paperback.  With a bit more effort, you can learn HTML and CSS and make your own eBooks.  But you need to ask yourself, especially if you plan to be a working writer, someone who supports themselves through their own creativity, are you making money when you're formatting--or only when you're writing? Should you take that 20, 30, 50 hours of time, and learn how to design books--or should you spend that on the next book in your mind?
